Porter Health Care System Announces 2015 Patient Choice Winner

Patient-Choice-Winner-2015Porter Health Care System recently honored one of its nurses through its annual Patient Choice Award program. The prestigious award recognizes the level of quality care, comfort and compassion offered by nurses each day.

This year, Porter is pleased to announce that Labor & Delivery Nurse Cashawn Walker has been named the 2015 Patient Choice Award winner. Walker was recognized with a cash prize and reception (pictured above).

Walker began her career at Porter Regional Hospital in August 2014, having previously served as a nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City. As a newer associate, she was very surprised to be this year’s recipient. “I was truly shocked and overwhelmed. There are so many individuals doing great nursing at Porter - to be the one recognized is a great honor,” Walker shared.

Patient Choice Award winners are selected after a careful review of hundreds of nominations sent each year from former patients and family members who want to nominate an exceptional nurse who directly impacted their lives with outstanding care. “Cashawn was by my side during the entire 18 hours of labor. She was a great coach and very calming. She is a natural at her job,” wrote one of the patients who nominated Walker. Another wrote, “Cashawn provided individualized, personal care in that she was respectful of this Mom’s birth plan (natural birth with a doula). She was a helpful part of the birthing team.”
