2015 has been a year filled with fantastic health-related news and events. New medical procedures, life-saving drugs, people making a difference in the lives of others, healthy living, and more have taken place in La Porte County. 1. 2015 Tour de La Porte Raises Funds for Cancer Patients
The 14th Annual Tour De La Porte kicked off on a beautiful Saturday Morning with a half marathon, 10K, and 5K running race, followed by bike trials at noon. And while the participants were certainly running for their own health, what was really on their minds was running for the health of others.
2. La Porte Slicer Cheerleaders Wouldn’t Let Rain Stop Their 5K 'Color Run For Fun'
The La Porte High School Cheerleaders didn’t let the rain stop them on Saturday morning from holding their Slicer Color Run for Fun. It was a 5K run/walk to generate funds for the squad beginning and ending at La Porte’s beautiful Stone Lake Beach.
3. IU Health La Porte Hosts “Save Your Life, Start Tonight Event” To Raise Awareness of Heart Disease During Heart Health Month
IU Health La Porte Hospital played host to the “Save Your Life, Start Tonight” heart awareness and prevention event tonight, Friday February 6.
4. Dr. Dean Ornish Shares Thoughts on Healthy Eating and Living at 'An Evening With Dr. Dean Ornish'
Dean Ornish, M.D., spoke out to the La Porte County community with a very important message about the direct relation between healthy living and living joyfully at “Discover Health & Joyful Living – An Evening with Dr. Dean Ornish,” A special event brought to the community by Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital and hosted at The Blue Chip Casino's Stardust Event Center.
5. The 14th Annual Women’s Fair was an Educational Cornucopia for the Ladies of the Region
Hundreds of women, and some dedicated gentlemen, immersed themselves in the healthy offerings for mind and body provided by IU Health La Porte Hospital in their annual Women's Fair.
6. Porter Regional Hospital Wants to Blow Away Breast Cancer
It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many are donning their pink accessories and clothing to bring awareness to breast cancer and celebrate those strong individuals who are going through it, those who have beat it, and those who are supporting a loved one who has had the terrible disease.
7. Walk with Thor is Making Great Strides at IU Health La Porte
Every Monday at 10:30am a group gathers outside of IU Health La Porte in Downtown La Porte. They have work clothes on, but some are wearing tennis shoes (others are wearing loafers and some very brave ones are wearing high heels). What's going on? It's the weekly Walk with Thor!
8. Franciscan Alliance Gets Social in Cyberspace
The ways that we communicate these days are wonderful and multiple. What a letter accomplished in weeks at one time, now can be accomplished in mere seconds with an email or text message. If we wanted information or news we read the newspaper, made a phone call, or headed to the library. Now we can get all of the news and information that we want right from our computers and smart phones.
9. La Porte Family YMCA Helps The Youngsters Get Healthy
This year marks the 24th year that Healthy Kids Day has been nationally recognized. The La Porte County Family YMCA promoted healthy living and well-being by inviting all local parents and their children to make a commitment to stay active and healthy throughout the summer months. The YMCA also welcomed businesses in the area to assist families by providing them with information about how they can prepare for a safe and healthy summer vacation.
10. Q-Tips and Toothbrushes: The La Porte County Family YMCA Cleaning Story
The La Porte County Family YMCA is making some major changes at their facility. The annual cleaning is nearly complete and it’s all bright and shiny and clean thanks to the very hard work and dedication of the YMCA staff and volunteers.
