Free Mammograms Available for Qualified Residents at Franciscan Health Munster

rot4Franciscan Health Munster recently received an $8,500 grant from the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust (IBCAT) to provide a limited amount of free screening mammograms for medically underserved Hoosier women.

Screenings are done at the Franciscan Hammond Clinic Specialty Center, 7905 Calumet Ave.

The hospital provides more than 5,000 mammograms annually and is partnering with Franciscan Hammond Clinic to identify women who would not otherwise be able to afford a screening.

The project, developed by IBCAT, aims to encourage Indiana women who do not have insurance, or are underinsured, to take action concerning their health.

Funds for the grant are derived through the sales of breast cancer awareness specialty license plates. IBCAT plate sales began in January of 2002.
