La-Porte-Hospital-Sleep-Disorders-Center-Earns-Accreditation-2017La Porte Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center is pleased to announce that they have been awarded accreditation status by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for compliance with national standards. This achievement demonstrates the hospital’s ongoing commitment to the quality of care they provide to patients and the surrounding communities they serve.

“Experts at the National Sleep Foundation estimate that 20 percent of people in the U.S. suffer from some type of sleep disorder. Many stressors and medical conditions can contribute to a lack of sleep, which is why it is important to have your sleep habits evaluated and properly diagnosed by a physician,” said Patti Solano, B.S., RRT, AE-C, manager of respiratory therapy and neuro-sleep services a La Porte Hospital. “Our highly skilled neuro-sleep staff and physicians are dedicated to improving sleep habits and helping patients truly understand and address the underlying medical conditions that contribute to poor sleep.”

The La Porte Hospital Sleep Disorders Center is a comprehensive sleep medicine practice equipped with leading edge technology and expert staff to help patients and physicians learn the causes and develop treatments for conditions that disrupt and cause poor sleep. Services include:

  • Polysomnography – a diagnostic sleep study for sleep apnea, periodic limb movements, and restless leg syndrome.
  • CPAP titration, including bi-level titrations – a study ordered after a patient has been diagnosed with sleep apnea. It is used to evaluate adequate CPAP airway pressure levels needed to achieve optimal sleep.
  • Multiple Sleep Latency Test – a test to help diagnose narcolepsy and true excessive daytime sleepiness. It is performed after a Polysomnography.
  • PAP Naps – used for patients having difficulty with CPAP compliance.
  • Home Sleep Test - a test used to help diagnose sleep apnea, performed in the patient’s home.
  • Maintenance of Wakefulness Test - a test used to measure how alert you are in the daytime hours.

The Sleep Disorders Center is located inside La Porte Hospital and offers patients private hotel-like rooms for a safe, comfortable sleeping environment. Staff use technology to measure and record patient’s vital signs, including: respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, EKG, brain sleep rhythms, snoring, and other parameters. Test results are interpreted by a qualified sleep specialist and sent to the referring physician for treatment planning.

Professionals with the Sleep Disorders Center are also involved with outreach activities, and can be found in the community at health fairs and other events providing education and interacting one-on-one with the community.
