Franicscan Health: Cancer Survivors Celebrate

Spirits were high and the weather was clear as a National Cancer Survivors Day event, sponsored by Franciscan Health, was celebrated at a Gary SouthShore Railcats baseball game recently. More than 500 survivors, who were treated at Franciscan Health’s Crown Point, Dyer, Hammond, Munster and Michigan City campuses, were on hand and had a premium view of the game, which the Railcats won, 2-0; in sections 101 and 102 along the third-base line.

They also enjoyed free refreshments and a giveaway. Sister Aline Shultz, chief operating officer at the Dyer and Munster hospitals, and Robert Prock, MD, medical director of radiation oncology, threw ceremonial first pitches that were caught by Railcats bullpen catcher Jorge Torres. Cindy Duran, oncology center director, and Dr. Prock, also were interviewed on Railcats radio by broadcaster Jared Shlensky in the second inning. They discussed the soon-to-be-open Franciscan Health Munster Cancer Center, among other topics.
