PNW Dance & Cheer Tryouts
Apr 15 10:00 AM - 03:00 PM
Purdue University Northwest - Hammond
The Purdue University Northwest Dance and Cheer teams will host several events in the month of April to recruit new members to the Pride spirit squads.
Official tryouts – open to current or enrolled Purdue Northwest students – will be held Saturday, April 15 at the Fitness & Recreation Center on PNW’s Hammond Campus from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Dance and Cheer team members must be full-time students (enrolled in at least 12 credit hours), have a current physical (in the last 6 months) and maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
A pre-tryout practice will be held on Friday, April 14, from 4-6 p.m. at the Fitness Center as prospective members will learn a short pom, hip-hop, and/or lyrical routine taught by current PNW dance team members, while those interested in cheer will learn a short routine.
For dance, minimal technical requirements include toe-touches, double pirouettes, high-kicks, tight/strong arm motions and a leap or jump of the dancer’s choice. Previous experience or training is preferred but not required.
Those interested in trying out for either squad must bring a recent physical form (within the last six months prior to the tryout date) in order to complete the tryout.
The PNW Dance and Cheer teams will also hold two informative sessions on Monday, April 10, and Wednesday, April 12, from 5-7 p.m. at the Fitness Center for any prospective members, including high school students of at least junior academic standing or higher.
The Dance and Cheer teams perform at all home men’s and women’s basketball events, participates in university activities and events, community events, parades, and other athletic events.
Scholarship opportunities are available.
