Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation Annual St. Baldrick’s Event

The Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation will host the 7th annual St. Baldrick’s Event at the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 on Sunday, March 11 from noon to 4 p.m.
The NICK Foundation’s goal is to raise $50,000 this year. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation uses the proceeds to provide funds for pediatric cancer research grants.
“The event is an opportunity to raise public awareness about the gap in funding for childhood cancer research,” said Burns Harbor Town Councilman Kevin Tracy. “There are a lot of people making donations of what they can afford and it's resulting in cures for childhood cancers that were once untreatable.”
Tracy’s team will be one of the many teams participating in the contest. The team that raises the most money will win four level one Blackhawks tickets.
“We've got a long way to go, but I'll keep getting my head shaved for as long as it takes to eradicate childhood cancer,” said Tracy.
Volunteers and local businesses are donating their time and services toward the cause. Tricoci Beauty School will be doing princess up-do’s and Texture Pointe Salon stylists will be volunteering for their seventh consecutive year. Rosati’s Chicago Pizza and Corky’s Dog House are providing the food for the event.
A magic show, face painting booths, games, an auction, and balloon art will all be available throughout the day.
Costumers with a Cause will have volunteers dressed up as Captain America, Maui, and other Disney characters.
“Last year I was Elmo, and this year I get to be Queen Elsa from Frozen,” said Amanda Knight, a NICK Foundation volunteer. “I volunteer because I love meeting families, making kids smile, and sharing my own battle with cancer, but the biggest reason is because the NICK Foundation has given something to me and I want to give something to them in return.”
