Basketball Pride Runs Deep Throughout the Town of Michigan City

Basketball pride runs deep throughout the town of Michigan City. The school prides itself on having the seventh largest gym in Indiana. Fans gather in the “Den” for Friday night games.

Starting July 22 and running through the 25th, the Wolves are hosting their annual camp. Each day the camp goes from 8:30 to 1:00 pm. Grades three through seven are welcome to join. There will be a discounted rate each day that passes.

John Boyd, varsity basketball coach, has been at Michigan City High School since 2009. He is also the Assistant Principal. He has more than 20 years of experience as both a coach and administrator and knows how important it is for young men to be shown a positive environment. He believes that being a student should always come before being an athlete.

Boyd said, “At our annual camps we work on skill development like different techniques and mechanics. We really try to talk about a family atmosphere that we try to promote here at Michigan City. We want to try to get our young kids to learn how to play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. It’s really a good time for us to give back to our community and to show our youngsters that we really are interested in them and we want them to become future leaders.”

Boyd has his players work as counselors at the camp. This gives the players an opportunity to work on their leadership and socialization skills. Boyd wants the players to be role models for the young players that come to the camp.

“The Wolves Coaches and Players are committed to serving the community by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to take your game to the next level. They are passionate about working with local children through various camps and other events,” Boyd said.
