Portage finished the invitational held in south suburban Chicago over the weekend with a 3-2 record and first place in the Bronze division.

First, Abby Alexander had 16 digs and Sydney Wilkins added 14 kills as Portage lost to Evergreen Park (IL) 25-22, 25-27, 8-15. They responded quickly, however, with a 25-9, 25-22 win over Thornwood (IL) in their second game behind seven assists apiece from Cara Nebel and Lauren Winicky.

Portage could not get a win streak going, however, as Providence Catholic (IL) pulled out a 25-12, 25-17 win despite Tatyana Schmitt’s five kills in the third game. A tie with Reavis (IL) followed, with the Lady Indians winning the first game 25-14 before falling in the second, 25-10.

In the final match, Portage beat Romeoville (IL) 25-23, 25-13 behind Alexa Ciesielski’s five kills and two blocks and nine assists and seven digs from Kaitlyn Galey.

The Lady Indians are now 11-10 overall and 1-6 in the Duneland Athletic Conference.

Marquette 5, Hammond Clark 0 (Girls Soccer)

Michael Jennings earned a hat trick for Marquette, who totaled 25 shots in the win. Bella Kaplan added two assists for the Blazers. Emmi Block earned the shutout with 12 saves.

Raquel Haro (7 saves) and Odalys Garcia (4) combined for net duties for the Pioneers.
