Michigan City Wins Double-Overtime Thriller, Olivia Glowacki Named Homecoming Queen

It was a cool, crisp evening for the Michigan City High School Homecoming and what an exciting night it was for the Wolves. Family, friends, parents, students and faculty packed the seats to partake in the homecoming festivities at Ames Field this evening and enjoy a great night of football between two longtime rivals, the Michigan City Wolves and the La Porte Slicers.

Homecoming week began on Monday with sports day followed by celebrity day, patriotic day, Disney Day and culminated with represent your class day where students were invited to wear either Wolf gear or pink to show awareness for breast cancer. The evening festivities started with a pep session, parade from Elston to Ames Field, and an exciting victory over the Slicers.

At half time, entertainment was provided by the Michigan City marching band. Homecoming queen candidates, representing school clubs, were introduced to the crowd. Superintendent, Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, crowned Olivia Glowacki the 2014 Homecoming Queen. The crowd enthusiastically congratulated her with a loud round of applause.

“It was a big shock. I did not expect it at all but I am very happy and honored.” Olivia stated.

Next up, a representative from each class was called onto the field for the awarding of the spirit stick for the best spirit banner. The seniors were victorious.

Just as exciting as the halftime show, was the second half of the football game. Going into the second half, the Slicers led 21 – 7 but the Wolves made an outstanding comeback, sending the game into what would eventually become a double overtime game with a final score of 34 -31. The Wolves ended their homecoming evening with a hard fought victory!
