Freshman year of high school, Justin Savich walked into gym class. He was smaller than the smallest girl in the whole school (2,000 kids), he was 5-foot-tall, and 89 pounds. He knew immediately that he wanted to build up. Though he never played any sports in high school, he discovered his true passion was working out.

On Thursday, La Porte citizens and business owners trekked through the blustery weather to attend the 15th Annual Salute to Business Awards and Luncheon, hosted by the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce.
The yearly event allows influential business representatives to gather in one common space to give one another a ceremonial round of applause for their hard work, as well as the differences they’ve made in the community.

On Thursday, business leaders from across Northwest Indiana gathered at Avalon Manor for one of the most anticipated events of the year in the Region’s entrepreneur community: the Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards, or simply “E-Day.” Hosted by the Indiana Small Business Development Center Northwest, E-Day is a luncheon that honors businesses making strides in providing quality products and services and that make an impact in their communities.
The early cold weather has not deterred construction teams at La Porte Hospital from moving forward with as much site preparation as possible for the new facility, which is scheduled to open in 2020. It will be the community’s only full-service acute care hospital.
The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL) introduced the 2018 Grant Cycle 1 & Grant Cycle 2, totaling in a whopping $5,057,075 that has been dispersed throughout the area to fulfill the Foundation’s mission. All grants foster goals specifically directed to empower residents to live healthy and well within the City of La Porte and surrounding areas. On Wednesday, November 14, the Healthcare Foundation hosted a luncheon that invited all grant recipients to the table. Additionally, the Foundation hosted their first ever Non-Profit Leadership Classes. Various non-profit organizations in the area qualified for an award, including United Way of La Porte County, the Pax Center, and La Porte CASA.
Franciscan Health and Beacon Health System broke ground Friday on the $21.6 million Franciscan Beacon Hospital in LaPorte. The project officially got underway after city and health system representatives blessed the ground of the future new hospital and ceremoniously sunk their shovels into the earth outside the current Beacon Medical Group building.
